Chapter 7 Walkthrough
With the airship, the world of your Final Fantasy 1 Pixel Remaster adventure is now open. Before hunting the next Fiend, it’s time to unlock your party’s true potential. Your destination is the Citadel of Trials, located on the eastern peninsula of the northern continent. The airship cannot land nearby, so you must land it elsewhere, board your ship, sail to the river near the citadel, and use the Canoe to reach its entrance.
The Citadel of Trials

The Citadel is a unique dungeon that tests your wits rather than your strength. After entering and sitting on the throne, you’ll be transported to the second floor, a confusing maze of teleporters. Follow the correct sequence to navigate through.
On the third floor, you’ll find a hallway filled with incredible treasure. Be sure to collect everything, especially these key items:
- Gauntlets: Can be used as an item in battle to cast Thundara for free.
- Ice Brand: A powerful sword with the Ice element.
- Ruby Armlet: A strong piece of armor for any class.
At the end of the hall, you’ll find a throne room guarded by two Dragon Zombies.

Dragon Zombie
These undead dragons are powerful, but they share the same weaknesses as other undead. They are highly vulnerable to Fire and Dia magic. A single casting of Firaga or Diaga can severely wound or defeat them outright. Have your fighters attack to finish them off.
The King of Dragons

After defeating the guardians, open the chest in the throne room to receive the Rat’s Tail, proof of your courage. Once you have it, sit on the throne to exit the Citadel and return to your airship.
Fly to the Cardia Islands, a chain of islands in the northern sea. Explore the caves until you find the throne room of Bahamut, the King of Dragons.

Present the Rat’s Tail to Bahamut. Impressed by your bravery, he will bestow upon you his ultimate blessing, unlocking the advanced forms of your job classes.
Class Change

This is one of the most significant power-ups in the game. Your characters will transform:
- Warrior → Knight: Can now use low-level White Magic and equip the best swords and armor.
- Thief → Ninja: Can now use low-level Black Magic and equip almost any weapon and armor, becoming a versatile fighter.
- Monk → Master: Receives a massive boost to unarmed damage and natural defense.
- Red Mage → Red Wizard: Gains access to higher-level White and Black Magic.
- White Mage → White Wizard: Can learn the most powerful healing and holy magic.
- Black Mage → Black Wizard: Can learn the most devastating offensive magic.
Your newly promoted characters can now learn spells they couldn’t before. Before proceeding, fly back to the towns you’ve visited (Melmond, Crescent Lake, Elfheim) to purchase new magic for your Knight, Ninja, and Wizards.
With your newfound power, you are now ready to hunt down the Fiend of Water.

Strategy
Dragon Zombie
The Dragon Zombie is a powerful undead foe, but it carries the standard undead weaknesses. The battle is a fixed encounter against two of them.
Their high HP and strong physical attacks can be dangerous, but they are extremely vulnerable to Fire and Dia magic. A single powerful spell like Firaga from a Black Mage or Diaga from a White Mage can end the fight almost instantly. If you lack these spells, Fira and Diara are also highly effective. Have your physical fighters focus their attacks on one dragon at a time to quickly reduce the number of incoming attacks.
